Tuck In To The Sunday Sessions
Written by Andy on May 2, 2020
Tuck in to The Sunday Sessions on Harrogate Community Radio – they’re proper good! But, what are The Sunday Sessions? Well, we have cleared a gap in the schedule on a Sunday at 4pm til 6pm – every Sunday of the calendar month. This time-slot will be the opportunity for local DJs to get really hands-on and let them nerd out about their music collection. So, if Jazz makes you jiggle or Funk makes you Floss, you are in for a treat!
First Sunday: MOONSHAKIN’
Join Aidan C. every first Sunday of the month for MOONSHAKIN’. This show has promise. Aidan has a great collection of music and if he doesn’t yet have ‘that track’ then he is hunting it down. Having experience with College Radio, Aidan is a welcome member of the team at HCR and he will hopefully be showing Admin Smyth, DJ Scooby & Admin Andy a thing or two. Having studied at Uni, Aidan has advanced knowledge of Wet Sales and met Scooby & Admin Andy in Major Tom’s – they got talking and this is the result, as well as a well-cemented friendship.
Second Sunday: The Jazz Show
This show is presented by myself, Andy. I had a picture of my ideal radio show in mind. Many years ago, Donald Fagen wrote a song called The Nightfly. It described the story a lone-wolf disc jockey, passing the night on the fictional WJAZ, which provided “jazz and conversation from the foot of Mount Belzoni”. The cover of the album showed Fagen doing two things you wouldn’t be permitted to do in a modern radio studio: one is smoking, the other is actually playing records… but, you are stuck with Andy Backhouse. Andy will be covering Jazz Standards as well as a great selection of newer releases on The Jazz Show.
Journeying from Bebop to Spiritual through Cosmic to Free, and covering all in between; I will play the music you need to hear on a Sunday afternoon. Broadcasting every second Sunday of the month at 4pm. To keep up to date with progress on The Jazz Show, feel free to sign up to the Newsletter HERE.
Third Sunday: Musicology
As the O’Jay’s said “I love music.” And, Craig J has loved music for as long as he can remember. Music of all kinds, music of all genres & music of all decades. Not only does he love playing music, he also loves to talk about it too, and he’ll talk about it to anyone who’ll listen.
Craig J have a collection of over half a million songs and he wants to share them all with you. Each show in the Musicology series will have its own unique topic. Together we will embark on a journey of discovery.
Fourth Week: Porcupine Funk Presents…
We are yet to hear from David L. the host and man behind Porcupine Funk – but, having listened to the demo this is a show encompassing stompin’ riffs from the likes of The Haggis Horns and refined platters from the likes of Pharoah Sanders.
… more to come on this… David is lying low after getting a bit under the weather. We hope he heals quickly and that it is just a minor glitch in the Matrix.
